John Watson

Owner/Director

John Watson, widely known as "John John," has been an inspirational figure in the world of dance for the past 27 years. Despite being born with Cerebral Palsy, a condition that has prevented him from dancing himself, John John has carved out an esteemed career as a dance teacher and choreographer. His journey in dance began in his childhood when he would accompany his sisters - Jennifer, Jamie, and Jessica - to their dance classes, an experience that sparked his lifelong love for dance.

John John's talent for understanding the intricacies of dance was nurtured by Hope Specht, a dance educator who recognized his unique ability to spot dancers as they tumbled. Under Specht's mentorship, John John honed an eye for dance education and its technique, even though he couldn't physically perform the moves himself.

At the tender age of 16, John John began choreographing solos for his cousin Stacie and his sisters Jamie and Jennifer. He also started offering one-on-one dance and tumbling classes in the basement of their childhood home. These early experiences laid the foundation for his development as a highly skilled teacher and choreographer.

By the time he was 21, John John had started teaching and choreographing at various studios throughout the Southern New England area. His exceptional talent and unique approach to teaching dance have earned him several regional and national Choreography Awards. In 2011, Dance Studio Life Magazine recognized him as one of the Top Teachers on the rise in the Southern New England area, a testament to his skill and influence.

That same year, John John's remarkable story was featured in a segment called "Against All Odds" on Providence Local News Channel 12's "Street Stories". The segment highlighted his journey as a dance teacher who, despite his disability, was able to teach dance in his unique and captivating way.

John John's passion and love for dance continue to thrive as one of the Owners/Directors of JFDC - The J Family Dance Center. His unique teaching style has contributed to the success of thousands of students and their dance schools over the decades. As he moves forward, John John is excited to continue sharing his love for dance at The J Family Dance Center, where he is committed to creating a fun, energetic, and family-friendly atmosphere. His story serves as a vibrant reminder that passion and determination can transcend any limitations.
